ASEE Annual Conference  (10 - 13 June 2012, San Antonio, Texas, USA)

In order to strengthen the quality of conference proceedings, the ASEE Board of Directors has voted on a policy of "Publish to Present" at the ASEE Annual Conference. This policy, which requires all conference papers and presentations to be peer reviewed, seeks to ensure that intellectual activity by faculty and staff receives appropriate professional recognition.

Frontiers in Education Conference 2012 (October 3-6 2012, Seattle, Washington)

 Online submission opens very soon

The 42nd Annual Frontiers in Education (FIE 2012) Conference is the major international conference about educational innovations and research in engineering and computing. FIE 2012 continues a long tradition of disseminating results in these areas. It is an ideal forum for sharing ideas; learning about developments in computer science, engineering, and technology education; and interacting with colleagues in these fields.

Whether through a full paper, a work in progress, proposals for panels, special sessions or workshops, this is your opportunity to share your work with your colleagues from around the world. Details of the  paper formats and topics of interest, conference information and more will shortly be available at:

http://fie-conference.org/

SEFI - European Society for Engineering Education (Lisbon, Portugal 2011)

For further information, please contact: info@sefi.be

SEFI, in cooperation with ISEL, will organise the 2011 IFEES Summit in Lisbon on 1-2 October.
The Summit will immediately follow the SEFI Annual Conference 2011 to be held also in Lisbon
(ISEL) on the theme of “Engineering for Global Sustainability and Mobility in an Intercultural context“.

Workshops on Engineering Threshold Concepts

Engineering Threshold concept theory is one of the most important recent developments in discipline-based higher education research. However, relatively little work has been carried out on thresholds to learning of engineering students. UWA has recently won an Australian Learning and Teaching Council award to explore thresholds in foundation engineering courses. The focus of the project is on those essential and critical foundational concepts that substantively define the thresholds or portals for engineering students of any discipline. These concepts are the ones that 'open up' the terrain and facilitate learning of students in upper years. A unique opportunity has arisen at UWA to design an engineering program based on an understanding of these concepts. Engineering students will in future take an Engineering Science major as part of a Bachelor of Science and within this will be a common foundational program. The new foundation program design will be based on threshold concept theory and the study of foundational thresholds. Workshops will be held with engineering lecturers across Australia to consider these and other thresholds in the basic levels of engineering degrees. A map of introductory level concepts and suggestions for helping students navigate through them will be developed for continual and iterative improvement, accessible to all. Engineering educators are welcome to join the web discussion forum on foundation engineering thresholds.
