REES  (September 2011 Madrid, Spain)

The 2011 Research in Engineering Education Symposium will be held at the Universidad Politecnica de Mardid (Technical University of Madrid - UPM). This is one of the larger Madrid Universities and has just successfully co-hosted the large IEEE EDUCON 2010 conference (270 papers). The Conference Chair is Prof. Wilmar Hernandez  and the theme is: EER Capacity Building in a Global Context

Although there is a growing interest in EER in many parts of the worubmission dates.ld, this is not yet reflected in the appearance of high quality research publications; we propose that publicity should be aimed at, and submissions encouraged  from, Southern Europe and REEN priority areas (SE Asia, S America, Middle East, Africa). http://grou.ps/reen/blogs/item/rees-2011

AAEE (4-7 December 2011, Fremantle)

In 2011 our annual conference will be held at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle, Western Australia. The theme will be "Developing Engineers for Social Justice: Community Involvement, Ethics and Sustainability".

Further details are available at the conference website http://www.aaee.com.au/conferences/2011

ASEE Annual Conference  (26 - 29 June 2011, Vancouver, BC, Canada)

In order to strengthen the quality of conference proceedings, the ASEE Board of Directors has voted on a policy of "Publish to Present" at the ASEE Annual Conference. This policy, which requires all conference papers and presentations to be peer reviewed, seeks to ensure that intellectual activity by faculty and staff receives appropriate professional recognition.

Abstract Submission Process Closed

Full papers due January 19 2011

ICWES 15  -  International Conference for Women Engineers and Scientists

19 - 22 July 2011 Adelaide

The 15th International Conference for Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES15) is jointly hosted by Engineers Australia National Committee for Women in Engineering and the International Network for Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES).

The International Conference for Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES) has been held every three years since 1964 and provides an important forum for the exchange of information and ideas for women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

CONFERENCE THEMES
The theme of this conference is Leadership, Innovation, Sustainability. The conference will provide an opportunity to discuss innovative technology in the 21st century across the engineering, science and technological professions as well as providing excellent network opportunities with colleagues in business, academia and government. It will highlight the important roles and contributions women in STEM make to society in the 21st century as well as demonstrating the value of having women as part of the professional team.

Important Dates

Submissions will be accepted in 4 categories – full paper reviewed, full paper non-reviewed, poster presentations, workshop proposals:

  • Abstract submission for review – all categories 1 Dec 2010
  • Abstract acceptance notification 10 Jan 2011
  • Full paper submission for peer review 1 March 2011
  • Final workshop proposal submission for inclusion in program 1 March 2011
  • Acceptance notification for reviewed papers 1 May 2011

Frontiers in Education Conference 2011 (October 12-15 2011, Rapid City, SD.)

 Online submission opens very soon

The 41st Annual Frontiers in Education (FIE 2010) Conference is the major international conference about educational innovations and research in engineering and computing. FIE 2011 continues a long tradition of disseminating results in these areas. It is an ideal forum for sharing ideas; learning about developments in computer science, engineering, and technology education; and interacting with colleagues in these fields.

Whether through a full paper, a work in progress, proposals for panels, special sessions or workshops, this is your opportunity to share your work with your colleagues from around the world. Details of the  paper formats and topics of interest, conference information and more will shortly be available at:

http://fie-conference.org/

Workshops on Engineering Threshold Concepts

Engineering Threshold concept theory is one of the most important recent developments in discipline-based higher education research. However, relatively little work has been carried out on thresholds to learning of engineering students. UWA has recently won an Australian Learning and Teaching Council award to explore thresholds in foundation engineering courses. The focus of the project is on those essential and critical foundational concepts that substantively define the thresholds or portals for engineering students of any discipline. These concepts are the ones that 'open up' the terrain and facilitate learning of students in upper years. A unique opportunity has arisen at UWA to design an engineering program based on an understanding of these concepts. Engineering students will in future take an Engineering Science major as part of a Bachelor of Science and within this will be a common foundational program. The new foundation program design will be based on threshold concept theory and the study of foundational thresholds. Workshops will be held with engineering lecturers across Australia to consider these and other thresholds in the basic levels of engineering degrees. A map of introductory level concepts and suggestions for helping students navigate through them will be developed for continual and iterative improvement, accessible to all. Engineering educators are welcome to join the web discussion forum on foundation engineering thresholds.

WEPAN Annual Conference (Seattle, WA June 21-23 2011)

Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) is pleased to announce their 22nd annual conference, to be held in Seattle, Washington from June 21 through June 23, 2011 . The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference will follow in Vancouver, BC from June 26 through June  29, 2011.

The purpose of the conference is to share and investigate ideas that focus on advancing women in engineering by transforming engineering education. Participants, each of whom has a unique and significant role to play in achieving the full participation of women in engineering, will share innovative strategies for developing a highly prepared, diverse engineering workforce that has achieved technical excellence and learned how to think and design creatively.   Our emphasis on promoting women’s success—at all ages and in all capacities—will provide the momentum for transforming engineering education. We seek contributions from individuals at all levels across the WEPAN spectrum, in the academy, as well as in the corporate and non-profit sectors. Topics include advancing women, leading transformation, teaching innovation, and cultivating talent.  Abstracts that demonstrate creative new approaches to achieving the full participation of women in engineering through these broad topics are especially encouraged.

Abstract submission is now open, with a submission deadline of December 17, 2010. Further details may be found at:
